TAC Chapter 194

The TMB is changing some of the rules for Chapter 194. Please review those changes through the link below. You can direct any comments to Kate Verdun at kathryn.verdun@austincc.edu.

Please see Adopted rules for Podiatric Medical Radiologic Technologists below.

“The adopted rules add new §130.35, Podiatric Medical Radiological Technicians. The adopted rules relocate existing §130.53 to this section and increase the number of required training hours from 20 hours to 45 hours for podiatric medical radiological technicians. The adopted rules update the didactic and clinical training requirements; increase the number of x-rays to be performed; and reflect the actual time needed to complete the training requirements. The updated training requirements apply to persons who apply for the Podiatric Medical Radiological Technician (PMRT) registration on or after the effective date of the adopted rules. The training requirements are prerequisites to applying for the PMRT registration, and the updated training requirements apply prospectively. Persons who applied for or obtained the PMRT registration before the effective date of the adopted rules do not have to obtain additional training hours.”

The proposed rules under §130.35 increase the number of training hours from 20 hours to 45 hours for the Podiatric Medical Radiological Technicians, as recommended by the Education and Examination Workgroup of the Podiatric Medical Examiners Advisory Board. This change is necessary as a result of moving to an online course; expanding the clinical training requirements; expanding the online course and student manual to add digital content as the profession shifts from film to digital x-rays; and increasing the number of x-rays performed in a clinical setting from 60 x-rays to 90 x-rays. The change in the number of training hours also reflects the actual time needed to complete these requirements and ensures that students receive credit for the hours they complete. The Podiatric Medical Examiners Advisory Board agreed that the proposed changes are necessary.

TMB Website

The Texas Medical Board has partnered with CE Broker, an online continuing education compliance platform, to provide our licensees with an additional tool to help them more easily find, track, and report continuing education coursework.

All PHYSICIAN, RESPIRATORY CARE PRACTITIONERS, ACUPUNCTURE, MEDICAL RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS and ACUDETOX SPECIALISTS licensees have access to establish a free, basic account with CE Broker.  Beginning March 3, 2025, licensed medical physicists and surgical assistants will have access to this opportunity as well.

TMB will roll-out access to all licensees on a quarterly basis and by license type (i.e. physician, RCP, PA, etc.) between now and June 2, 2025.  Licensees will be contacted by TMB when their license type is eligible to create an account with CE Broker.

If you’re a TMB licensee, here’s what you need to know right NOW:

  1. CE Broker is OPTIONAL.  Licensees do not have to utilize CE Broker to meet current statutory continuing education requirements.*If selected for an audit you will be required to use CE Broker and only for the duration of the audit.
  2. You will never have to pay for a CE Broker Basic Account.  However, licensees will have the option to subscribe to an upgraded account, which offers additional CME tracking tools.
  3. You will not be able to create a CE Broker account until your license type becomes eligible.  Licensees will receive advance notice of their license type’s go-live dates.

Effective January 9, 2025, all rules and procedures associated with Medical Radiologic Technology have been moved from sub-chapter 194 to sub-chapter 186. A link to the new Rules can be found here.
