Student to Leadership Development Program FAQ

  1. What are the requirements to apply for the SLDP program?
    1. You must be currently enrolled in an accredited medical imaging or radiation therapy program.
    2. Provide proof of current ASRT student membership.
    3. Provide proof of current TxSRT student membership
    4. Complete the application and essay.
    5. Submit a signed letter of recommendation from your program director.
  2. How are participants chosen for the SLDP in Texas?
    • The ASRT will forward your anonymized application and essay to the TxSRT Board. A committee of former SLDP members is chosen each year to review and score the applications and essays. The final scores are sent back to the ASRT and they will inform the selected students. The top four candidates are chosen to participate in the Texas SLDP program while the top two are selected for the ASRT SLDP program in addition to the state program.
  3. How many participants are accepted each year?
    • The top four candidates are chosen to participate in the Texas SLDP program while the top two are selected for the ASRT SLDP program in addition to the state program.
  4. What is the difference between the TxSRT SLDP and the ASRT SLDP?
    1. If you are chosen for the state program, you will be invited to participate in monthly TxSRT board meetings and serve on sub-committees for the TxSRT. You  will also assist in planning and executing the annual TxSRT conference and symposium and complete online learning modules through the Learning Management System.
    2. If you are chosen for the ASRT SLDP program, you will participate in all the state activities plus additional activities for the ASRT.  The ASRT assigns each participant to a mentor and you would be encouraged  to meet with them on a monthly basis. You would attend the Annual ASRT Conference, Symposium and HOD meeting in your first year of the program and will have additional online modules to complete.
  5. What are the expectations of the Texas SLDP participants?
    1. You should be engaged in all activities for the full three-year program.
    2. You must maintain ASRT and TxSRT membership throughout the three-year program.
    3. You are expected to complete all online learning modules.
    4. You are encouraged to participate in monthly board meetings and sub-committee meetings.
  6. What is the time commitment for the Texas SLDP?
    1. The program is designed so that it does not interfere with your academic commitments. Your education and clinical commitments are top priority.
    2. Both SLDP programs are three year commitments, and will continue after you graduate from your educational program.
    3. Participants typically spend an average of less than four hours per month completing modules and participating in activities and meetings.
  7. What are the scholarship opportunities for the SLDP participants?
    • After the ASRT annual conference, symposium and HOD, all participants receive a $1,000.00, scholarship from the TxSRT paid directly to the students.
  8. Does the TxSRT/ASRT pay for me to attend the state and national conferences?
    1. The TxSRT will pay for your hotel and provide a stipend for you to use for travel and food for the TxSRT Annual Conference and Symposium. 
    2. The ASRT will pay for ASRT SDLP participants’ round-trip airfare based on ASRT travel guidelines, stay at a hotel selected by ASRT, meals provided as part of the program and a daily stipend at the current U.S. General Services Administration’s per diem rates. Travel arrangements must be made through ASRT’s travel agency no later than 30 days before to the event. If the participant lives in the area in which the Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting is being held or elects not to take advantage of the airfare provided, ASRT will not provide compensation or substitution in value. Eligibility is also dependent upon attendance of all required events and completion of the post-meeting survey.
  9. Do I have to be a member of the TxSRT and ASRT to participate?
    • Yes. Participants must maintain membership in both the TxSRT and the ASRT throughout the three year program.
  10. What are the benefits of participating in the SLDP program?
    1. Experience an introduction into advocacy and legislative activities around issues affecting the profession.
    2. Participants have the opportunity to network with fellow students and leaders at both the state and national levels
    3. Gain insight into leadership roles within the profession and enhance leadership skills
    4. You will have fun!
