The TSRT, an affiliate of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), is the organization dedicated to the Radiologic Science professional, reflecting the concerns and spirit of thousands of Texas Imaging technologists and students. As an affiliate the TSRT is represented by two delegates as outlined in the ASRT & TSRT Bylaws.
Texas Makes an Impact at the 2026 ASRT Annual Governance Meeting
TxSRT was proudly represented at the 2026 ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kate Whiting and I served as Texas delegates, representing our members during discussions and voting on issues that shape the future of the profession. We were also excited to have three Texas participants in the ASRT Student to Leadership Development Program in attendance (Mandy, Jillian, and Andrew), highlighting the strength of our future leaders.
Texas Takes First Place!
Texas was recognized during the meeting for its outstanding support of the ASRT Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our members, TxSRT sold more tickets than any other affiliate during the ASRT Foundation Annual Drawing, earning first place and a $750 award for our society. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and helped make this achievement possible!
Highlights from the House of Delegates
New Imaging Assistant Membership
The House approved a new ASRT Imaging Assistant membership category with annual dues of $95. During debate, Texas delegates successfully supported an amendment granting Imaging Assistant members voting rights within ASRT, ensuring these professionals have a voice in the Society’s future.
Updated Membership Categories
The Active Member category was revised to include the term nonlimited. In addition, Limited X-ray Machine Operators are now recognized as Limited Practice Members and will be eligible to vote in ASRT elections and serve as delegates in the House of Delegates.
Practice Standards Revised
The House approved revisions to the ASRT Practice Standards regarding contrast media administration. The updated language aligns with current guidance from the American College of Radiology by allowing virtual supervision under specific conditions while maintaining appropriate patient safety safeguards.
Representing Texas
Serving as delegates is one of the most important responsibilities of your elected TxSRT leaders. Every vote cast during the House of Delegates represents the interests of imaging and radiation therapy professionals across Texas.

ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting SLDP Highlights
Andrew Valencia – ASRT/TxSRT Student to Leadership Program – 2026
As a participant in the ASRT and TxSRT Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP), I had the privilege of experiencing the House of Delegates from the floor and gaining a firsthand understanding of how our profession is governed. Watching amendments be debated, challenged, and ultimately decided by a two-thirds vote gave me a new appreciation for the leadership, collaboration, and dedication that shape the future of medical imaging.
One of the most valuable parts of the experience was sitting with our Texas delegates, Kate and Kevin, who took the time to explain each step of the legislative process. Their mentorship helped us understand not only what was happening, but also why each discussion and vote mattered.
Another highlight was participating in discussions surrounding the proposed Imaging Assistant membership category. The ASRT Bylaws Committee originally proposed this category as non-voting. However, Kate, along with delegates from several ASRT affiliate societies, successfully introduced an amendment that granted Imaging Assistant members voting privileges. Witnessing this process firsthand demonstrated the importance of advocacy and showed how every delegate has the opportunity to influence the future of our profession.
Beyond the House of Delegates, the networking opportunities were invaluable. I had the chance to connect with ASRT Board members, state delegates—including many from Georgia, where I’ll begin my MRI career after graduation—and fellow students in the SLDP. Every conversation offered new perspectives, valuable advice, and inspiration for my future.
This experience reinforced that I have chosen the right career path. The passion, professionalism, and commitment I witnessed throughout the week left me feeling energized and even more excited about becoming an MRI technologist and future leader in medical imaging.
A heartfelt thank you to ASRT and TxSRT for investing in students through the Student Leadership Development Program. Opportunities like this develop not only future imaging professionals but also future leaders.
I’m already looking forward to seeing everyone again at the 2027 ASRT Educational Symposium and House of Delegates Meeting in Orlando, Florida!
Mandy Respondek – ASRT/TxSRT Student to Leadership Program – 2026
My experience at the ASRT Educational Symposium and House of Delegates in Albuquerque was extremely memorable. I not only gained so much knowledge, but I also met so many amazing people. The first day at the Educational Symposium, we got the opportunity to learn about the ARRT, who they are, and what they do. We were also informed about the Radiologic Assistant position, which I am now interested in. Many more speakers presented valuable information on topics such as different types of cancer, neurodivergence in the workplace, and how to collaborate with a team. The House of Delegates meetings were very interesting, and it was so fun being a part of them. It was cool to see the interworkings of how our bylaws come to be, or get amended. I love how everyone could have the chance for their voice to be heard. All in all, after meeting so many wonderful people who are so passionate about this field, I left the conference with an even deeper love for what I do and a great amount of optimism for the future of our profession.
Jillian Cole-Laufer – ASRT/TxSRT Student to Leadership Program – 2026
Attending the ASRT Educational Symposium and House of Delegates Meeting in Albuquerque through the Student Leadership Development Program was an experience I will always appreciate.
One of the highlights of the conference was attending the chapter meetings and listening to professionals from each discipline discuss current developments, challenges, and opportunities within their fields. I enjoyed hearing different perspectives on the advances, struggles, and accomplishments occurring across the various modalities within radiology. I was also impressed by the keynote speakers. The presentation on artificial intelligence and the future of digital twinning introduced concepts I had never heard of before and encouraged me to consider the potential benefits of AI within our profession.
My favorite experience was the pin exchange, where SLDP students and other attendees excitedly traded pins from states across the country. It was a fun icebreaker that encouraged everyone to introduce themselves, start conversations, and make new connections. I had a wonderful time and am incredibly grateful to the ASRT and TxSRT for allowing me to attend such a memorable event.
I look forward to next year’s meeting in Orlando and the opportunity to continue learning, connecting, and growing within the profession.
